In February 2023, construction of the S6 expressway between Zukowo and the Gdansk Południe junction, a section of the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass (OMT), began in Pomerania. The new route, bypassing the Tricity agglomeration from the south and west, will connect the S7 Southern Bypass of Gdansk, the A1 highway and the S6 Kashubian Route. The investment will enable efficient, safe and comfortable travel from the A1 and S7 to the west and north of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The OMT will restore the possibility of long-distance transit along the S6 route along the Baltic coast, towards Lebork, Slupsk, Koszalin and Szczecin. It will provide traffic accessibility to the areas lying along the current national roads No. 7 and 20. It will unblock the centers of Żukowo and Chwaszczyn and relieve the burden on the existing Tri-City bypass, where traffic volume has long exceeded its capacity.
The Żukowo - Gdańsk Południe route will be about 16 km long. As part of the investment, an approximately 7-kilometer-long Żukowo bypass and the Żukowo and Lublewo interchanges will be constructed. The Gdansk Południe interchange at the junction of the existing S6 Tri-City Bypass and S7 Southern Bypass of Gdansk will also be expanded. The construction of the Widlino Service Area (cat. I) is also planned. The Żukowo bypass will connect with national road No. 7 in Przyjaźń and will be routed through the Żukowo interchange to national road No. 20 in Glincz.
The general contractor is a consortium of MIRBUD S.A. – Lider i Kobylarnia S.A. - Partner. Our first machines started work on February 23, 2023. We are one of two earthwork contractors on this construction site. Our section starts from the Radunia Canal at km 22+500 and ends at the Gdansk South interchange and includes the following works :
● removal of the humus layer -365,000 m3
● excavation of trenches- 1,213,000 m3
● replacement of non-bearing soil- 500,000 m3
● construction of embankments- 1,350,000 m3
● improvement of embankment layers with hydraulic binder - 1,500,000 m2
● stabilization of embankment bases with hydraulic binder - 276,000 m2
● layers of improved subsoil C0.4/0.5 - 270,000 m3
● macro leveling - 400,000 m3
● frost protection layer C1.5/2 - 260,000 m2
